The United Arab Emirates has dispatched a humanitarian aid shipment to Colombia, delivering essential supplies as part of a $10 million relief package. This initiative follows a devastating 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck the Choco province on August 10, resulting in over 300 fatalities and thousands of injuries.
The shipment, which included food, hygiene kits, and cleaning equipment, is aimed at assisting communities grappling with the aftermath of the earthquake near San Jose del Palmar. The natural disaster severely damaged homes and buildings, prompting the Colombian government to declare a state of emergency.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan directed the relief effort, emphasizing the UAE’s support for Colombia during the recovery process. The supplies were procured from markets in Paraguay before being transported to Colombia for distribution, ensuring they met the specific needs of the affected communities.
