Peace Board Briefs Nations on Gaza Rebuilding Initiatives

The Board of Peace will convene a critical meeting on September 23 to discuss the reconstruction of Gaza as part of a plan under U.S. President Donald Trump. This meeting is scheduled to occur alongside the United Nations General Assembly, gathering representatives from numerous countries.

The session aims to review progress and establish priorities for the next phase of Gaza’s rebuilding efforts. Participants will include Board members, international partners, mediators, and other crucial stakeholders. Representatives from several United Nations agencies and the European Union are also expected to attend, focusing on potential areas of collaboration.

A significant portion of the briefing will address ongoing negotiations concerning the disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions within Gaza. This topic has been a point of contention, with Israel opposing key elements of the disarmament proposal, which remains a significant hurdle in advancing reconstruction efforts.

The meeting will also feature a presentation from a committee of Palestinian technocrats, detailing 71 projects planned for the initial six months of operations. However, these plans face delays as broader reconstruction initiatives are stalled due to disagreements over the disarmament issue.

Despite these challenges, the Board of Peace continues to push for progress in disarmament negotiations. Israeli cooperation is deemed essential to move forward with the planned governance and reconstruction activities in Gaza, highlighting the complex diplomatic landscape surrounding the region’s future.
