Share a tip
Want to share some sensitive information or give us a tip? Then reach out to our journalists. Since we receive a large number of submissions, we may not be able to investigate or respond to every tip. Tips or stories you send us should be newsworthy. This means they must be of interest to the public and, wherever possible, should be corroborated with evidence or documentation.
Important
Don’t use your personal or official email address for sharing confidential documents or tips. Instead, make a new email with a fictitious name. Here’s some important information on how you should share confidential material and tips with our journalists.
Before reaching out
Since no single method is absolutely safe, it is necessary you should maintain anonymity as much as possible. Consider using apps that offer end-to-end encryption and don’t share your personal details, such as name, address, phone number, or personal email.
Here are some ways you can contact us for sharing tips and stories.
Regular email is convenient but not secure. Regardless of which email provider you use, refrain from sending anything from an official or personal email address.
The Freedom of the Press Foundation offers more detailed guides aimed at maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
For more sensitive tips, you can send encrypted emails with Pretty Good Privacy (PGP). Be noted that while the content of PGP-encrypted emails is secure, metadata — such as information related to the sender or recipient, timestamps, and the subject — is not. Be aware that many email providers retain your messages unless you direct them otherwise.
Several browser extensions, such as Enigmail, Mailvelope, and FlowCrypt, make it easy to use PGP with existing email providers, such as Gmail or outlook. You can also use ProtonMail, an email provider that supports PGP.
For additional confidentiality, set up a dedicated email address to communicate with us.
You can send emails to these addresses.
